Brandon Wilkinson Named Student Doctor of the Month

Brandon Wilkinson, of Elk Grove, California, was named a Student D.O. for the month of March at Lincoln Memorial University-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine (LMU-DCOM) in Harrogate, Tennessee. Wilkinson is a first-year osteopathic medical student at LMU-DCOM.

The Student D.O. of the Month is a program of the LMU-DCOM Student Government Association (SGA) and is designed to recognize an outstanding first- and second-year student each month. Among the criteria examined for the honor are involvement in LMU-DCOM, leadership skills, community service, class attendance, initiative, attitude and professionalism. Nominations are made to the SGA and voted on by the officers.

Brandon graduated from Monterey Trail High School in Elk Grove, California, and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in biology at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). While at UCLA, Wilkinson worked as an emergency medical technician for UCLA Emergency Medical Services, a 911 ambulance based out of the UCLA police department. After UCLA, he worked for the Antelope Valley division of American Medical Response in Los Angeles County, California.

At LMU-DCOM, Wilkinson serves as a clinical skills instructor for the American Heart Association Training Center and is the clinical skills coordinator for the Emergency Medicine Club. He also is the political activities director for the Student Osteopathic Medical Association and the president of the LMU-DCOM chapter of Students for a National Healthcare Program. Wilkinson also was recently selected for induction into Sigma Sigma Phi, an osteopathic honor society.

Wilkinson also serves as chief of the Cumberland Gap (Tennessee) Volunteer Fire Department. During his time as chief, he has helped the department in earning a grant for $6,000 and individually placed 100 fire alarms into houses in the area. He also serves in the Army National Guard and takes time out of his studies to travel to base every month for training.
